Is the 7mm Rem Mag the 40 S&W of the Hunting Round World?

I've known quite a few people who hunted with a 7mm Mag and loved it. I've hunted a few times with a borrowed one and had no issues with it, though some people I knew thought it had too much recoil. I mainly hunt with .308 Win now, but if I was going to buy a new rifle for deer it would most likely be a .270.

It would be my second choice after the 30-06, great hunting round......

It is funny that arguably the only two cartridges someone would need to kill any big game on the planet have been around for quite a while:

The 30-06 for the light(er) stuff (1906) and the 375 H&H for the heavy stuff (1912).

What originally prompted my question is that it seems I've seen several rifles in 7mm Rem Mag that I thought were great deals and priced really well but they just sat and no one bought them. If those rifles had been chambered in 6.5 CM, 308 or even 30-06 I bet they would have sold pronto.
