Is the Ar10 worth it?

Why do you hate every gun I own?

You buy guns based on name recognition, not based on what is actually quality. Armalite is the same thing as Springfield, stupid Illinois company (Eagle Arms) who bought an iconic name and try to pass themselves off as something they are not. Eagle Arms were considered B grade guns at best before they started slapping the name "Armalite" on the sides of their guns.

/Sigh, I give up. I am just going to stick with Colt from now on.

The AR10 platform is awesome. I am not a DPMS fan but am glad it seems to be working for others on this thread. Take a look at the SIG 716 or maybe the Ruger SR762. Both have the piston system which is more reliable, has less recoil and shoots cleaner than gas impingement.

Buy some parts and start tinkering. The AR world can be so much more satisfying when you don't tie your self down to commercially built guns. You can build as high quality or higher than the big recognizable names. I and many MANY others on this forum will be more than happy to help with advice, tools, etc.

Then if your gun doesn't work, you fix it. You know the gun inside and out because you installed every part. You know the gun was built correctly and with quality parts because you built it.

Much more satisfying than sending your factory built gun back to the manufacture just because a 6 dollar part is out of spec.

I would put my "home builds" up against any Colt for build quality/reliability. Plus, they are built EXACTLY how I want.
