Is this guy "Hunting" or is he just flat nuts?

I am wondering if a particular event that has happened more than once around my house is "normal" or "never heard of such a thing before"?

A pack of beagles will come through the woods, including my yard and through the neighborhood streets and run between houses.

They are sniffing out rabbits.

Then a guy comes running through with a machete and chops the rabbits.

He leaves the rabbits chopped in the yard or where ever he encounters them. But I have found them chopped in the lawn at times.

Is this some sort of "traditional" southern sport or is there a real hunting season for this or is this guy just out of his mind?

I am guessing that this is done on farms to protect crops or something or some similar reason but I find it a bit much in a modern neighborhood setting. The houses were built where a farm used to be and the guy is on foot so he is local but is he not smart enough to figure it is not a farm field anymore?

Happened Friday night. This is the first time I have seen it happen at night. Usually 2 guys on a random weekend day although usually only one has the machete, other guy just seems to be following along. I have seen it 3 or 4 times in the past couple of years. Same guys, dogs, method. Leave the chopped rabbit behind.

Was there a great rabbit infestation in the past where this guy learned this or what?

Your thoughts?

Call the cops. This guy is out of his mind.

Does the guy look like this?
