Can I take a Ruger Charger and change the rear stock/grip to a 10/22 takedown stock? Or have I created a SBR?? Bear in mind that the receiver still has the Charger serial number, so the barrel hasn't changed, but the stock, to the rear, is larger.

I would argue that I haven't made a "short barreled rifle" I have made a long stocked handgun.

Now, if I took a takedown rifle/receiver with a "rifle serial number" and put the forearm and barrel from a Charger on it, that would be, in my mind, creating a SBR.

It is illegal to put a buttstock on a handgun! A charger is a handgun. That is why pistol braces were/are such a big deal. I would not do it.

Definitely illegal. You would have, in fact, created an unregistered SBR.

Totally a SBR... Heck, the ATF had to give Ruger an exemption so a bipod on the front wouldn't be considered a vertical grip and make it an AOW.

If a tree falls in the woods, would it make a sound if no one was around to hear it?

I'm sure the ATF has an opinion on that too...

Not rolling the dice on something like this. We aren't talking about a $25 seat belt fine. 8364545094_45ffd4850e_b.jpg

Not sure I would be asking that question on a public forum either.
