Great article- https://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/08/12/opinion/when-innocence-is-no-defense.html?_r=1&referer=

Being able to show you are not the guy who committed the crime is not enough to get out of prison. But, the reality is that getting exonerated is damn near impossible, the system is set up to ensure finality over justice. There are a bunch of really good podcasts(wrongful conviction with jason flum, actual innocence, and for a deep dive-undisclosed) that show how the system really works. Season2 of undisclosed covers a case from Rome, ga.

The system wants results, and to produce results they put the screws to many people. But with that being said, most people get what they deserve. Not always, but most of the time.

That's the main reason I'm against the death penalty.

While our justice system is one of the best in the world, no system can be perfect. I'd rather keep a convicted murderer in jail for 50 years than kill an innocent person. That's something you simply can't take back.

The real flaw in the system is allowing the co-defendant for work out a deal for a 24 month sentence/

It turns the criminal justice system into a lottery.

If the DA thought that Flint was equally culpable in the murder, then IMO, the DA is derelict in his duty in letting a murderer walk free.

The DA's always retort, "we wouldn't get convictions without deals like this" which is total bull. Given that DA's have about a 96% conviction rate, any flaws in the system NOT in their favor are insignificant.

If Flint had stayed in the case and faced a life sentence, the outcome probably would have been different.
