Item Description: This very special Beretta 3901 chambered in 12 ga is for sale. It came factory with the wood furniture, and is 26 inches instead of 28.
"The 3901 was said to be a transition gun between the 390 and 391. It has the internals of a 390 but with a rounded rear receiver like the 391 and no bolt locking lever on the left side.
The RL designation stands for Reduced Length as the length of pull was adjustable from 12" to 13".
Because of the reduced length and adjustability in cast they were popular for lady and youth.
These were said to have been developed by Beretta specifically for the youth clay target programs, (4-H, Boy Scout, SCTP) which were gaining significant popularity during the early 2000's
As the youngster grew to need a standard length of pull, the most cost effective way to increase the length was to add the 1" spacer and a thicker recoil pad which is what appears to be the case in this example."
