You can use with a standard barrel, it will just be free float.
If your barrel and v-block is installed to spec, it's no issue

Only con i could think of would be that it looks a little silly with a tapered barrel. But that's temporary, right?
Getting the barrel away from the stock and loosing the band helps a lot with accuracy on a 10/22
