One of a kind hand maid trapper hats. I just had mine shipped today. So the backstory is pretty cool. I ordered one of these cause I work on the north slope in Alaska and it’s the start of ice roads. The lady who makes these lives in kenai Alaska and is an Alaska native. For those of you who don’t know the marine mammals act forbids harvesting seals except for natives. She’s the wife of a guy I work with.
She only gets one seal every other year and is able to make 5 hats from one seal. The shell is seal from lake illiamna. One of only two known lakes in the world with fresh water seals. The fur and linings are made from sea otter. If you’ve never seen one they ain’t those cute little rascals we see while trout fishing up in rabun county. These things are huge. She has three left as well as some that are sea otter and regular leather. Super warm obviously and a pretty awesome conversation piece. Will piss off PETA so there’s an added bonus.
