are the later models with the safety as durable and accurate as the pre-safety models?
Well, I haven't owned an older model, only held them in my hands at places like gun shows. I don't know how to accurately answer you except to say that everything on the rifle I have is very rugged feeling and seems to be well built. The lever action works smoothly and feels solid in my hands. All that I can suggest is to ask in a general forum to connect with gun dealers & owners who have had both and can more accurately answer the question. Sorry!!
