Item Description: I've got a great vintage Marlin 39a lever rifle chambered for 22lr (of course). According to the serial number, it was manufactured in 1957 or '58.
The walnut stock and forearm are nice original walnut, with some light dings and marks accumulated from over 65 years. Marlin stock bullseye is intact, and the sling swivels/studs are factory/original (integral stud and ring). Finish does show some bluing wear/loss and patina, mostly on the barrel midway down to the muzzle. The receiver has retained nearly all of its bluing/finish, and is smooth and shiny, tight seams around all edges and where the receiver is split for takedown/cleaning/transport. Original rear sight and gold bead front sight.
This is an excellent little rifle, and in my opinion is THE benchmark for which all other .22lr rimfire rifles are judged. And, they never made them any better than this one.
And for those who are deprived of knowledge regarding Marlin firearms, the answer is YES it has the JM proof stamp (on barrel)...
Oh, and it fires and cycles perfectly...as almost every 39a I've ever handled has.
