Item Description: EXCELLENT CONDITION!
This is a beautiful S&W Snubnose Pre Model 10, 5 screw, with the proper period grips but not numbered to the gun.
Manufacture date circa mid 1940s. .38 S&W Special
I bought this gun 5 years ago from Cabelas gun room in Thornton Colorado.
This gun was sold or traded to Cabelas from the family of Sheriff Bob Reeves of Bremond Texas.
When I picked the gun up, the manager had attached the sticky note to the box and gave me the following explanation.
On the 23rd of December 1947, Sheriff Reeves happened upon a bank robbery in progress in Bremond and confronted the two perpetrators. There was a shootout and he killed one (shot him right between the eyes) and the other escaped.
He confiscated this pistol from the dead perpetrator at the scene.
I researched enough to satisfy what I was told but didn’t pay for the full archived report from the Shreveport Times, but it is there in total if you want to chase it down.
