When was it made and is the frame steel or alloy?

I don't know the manufacture date, and the frame is steel.

There is a P38 collectors site that explains what all the markings mean as well as manufacturer and date produced.

it's probably a p38 made form extra parts in the french zone of germany after ww2 considering it has a steel frame.

the french used the parts that were either completed or almost completed to produce p38 in west germany french zone post ww2, the french zone was also the most lenient when it came to de-nazification requiring much less steps to get the proper certificate for germans to be able to own a business or home
