When I picked up my BE from Bill 18 months or so ago, he was restoring a CE and they came out nearly identical. I went back a month or so ago to get some work done on an A grade and he had a BE identical to mine he had colored and was working on fitting a second set of tubes. The colors were quite a bit different in my opinion, and a lot closer to correct factory original I thought. I have no gripes with mine that's for sure, but for factory original accuracy, a bit off, but still beautiful. Pic below is an extremely high condition original Sterlingworth I just picked up, not exactly the same as the graded stuff but they were close. You can see the difference in color tones between the 2. I still definitely recommend Bill for anyone wanting work done on good old doubles, he's local-ish, he's great at what he does and he's extremely reasonable price wise.

For old doubles Bill Schwarz is the guy for sure. Just out of curiosity what kind of doubles are they?

My BE Fox he restored for me last year

One is a W. Richards double barrel and one is a piedmont double barrel both have a broken stock and haven't been fired in God knows how long. I'm trying to get the stock fixed, and get them back to firing capability.

Cableguy, agree with all the points you make above regarding Bill's work. Excellent factoring price and convenience. For something extremely high grade and collectible, I would suck it up and send it to Merrington though. Probably more for the pedigree than anything else.

SouthGeorgia07 - you should look at that W. Richards very closely. Could be Belgian or British with wide variations in quality. Most W. Richards guns were not made by Westley Richards as most assume. Might want to establish provenance before investing in it too heavily.
