Purely out of curiosity, can someone give me the origin, intended use, etc on this type weapon. Thx.

This gun was the main battle weapon of the US forces in late WW1. It was intermixed with the m1 Garand in WW2. In the European theater it was primarily used by snipers. In the Pacific campaign, it was the main battle weapon of the Marines while island hopping to Japan.

Just reading this makes me happy...if that don't light your fire, then your woodpile is obviously wet! Love those milsurps.

This was the last bolt action main battle rifle deployed by the US. It was replaced by the M1 Garand. They were still used in the A4 configuration as a sniper rifle through Korea and into Vietnam.
