Item Description: 2004 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD

4.0L V6. 226K + miles. Grey/grey. Alarm. Electric windows, locks, sunroof. Brush-guard package.

The Good:

Body in decent shape considering its been lightly rear-ended (hit and run, as usual) TWICE by Buford Hwy “Drivers”.

Both catalytic converters, all 02 sensors, timing belt, water pump, radiator w/hoses and thermostat have all been replaced within the past 18 months. I have most service records.

Plugs and all coils were replaced appr. 100K ago. They’re fine.

Brake pads are good. Front rotors AND calipers were replaced 2 years ago. Lots of tread left on Nitto Crosstek 17” tires.

ONLY synthetic motor, transmission and gear oil have been used in the engine, tranny and both differentials and this has been changed religiously!

4WD performs wonderfully! The truck has never been submerged, and has only been on forest service roads. Never taken truly off-road.

The motor is STRONG and does not burn oil at all. It runs GREAT for its age.

The AC and heat remain in great shape.

Non-smoking vehicle.

Clean title.

The Bad:

It’s old. Things fall off.

The plastic hood release lever in the cabin has broken off, but it’s still included. No big deal. Pull lightly on the cable and it’s open. This can be fixed.

The hood lift struts no longer function. I’ve propped the hood up with a 2x4 for years. $28 for replacements at Amazon.

The sun visor on the driver side will no longer stay up due to a heavy Bluetooth adapter. I use the universal fix: Velcro!

The nylon gears in the little motors that move the vents for the AC and heat are worn out and occasionally noisy. These are cheap to replace but very difficult to access. The entire dash must be removed. I’ve dealt with the noise, as its not constant.

When the CAT converters were replaced, the mechanic left an open space between the exhaust manifold and the converter itself, which caused an exhaust leak. The extra air makes the 02 sensors light up the idiot-lights on the dash, but these are cleared easily and mean nothing.

The rear wiper has a short somewhere. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. No Big Deal.

The interior has no rips or tears but could really use a good cleaning. Front and rear seats are fine. The carpet... I like coffee...

I truly hate to part with my beloved 4Runner, and I’m still a bit undecided as to whether I need to free up driveway space by ditching it.

I'm asking $4800 or Best Offer.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I’m exceptionally busy with my work schedule, and I’ll respond as soon as I can, so please be patient. I'm not ignoring anyone, but I really am very busy.

I can provide more info and photos if needed.

Howdy!
Correct! The chains (dual timing chains) would not need replacing until well over 300k, and then only if it were skipping links, teeth, etc. I had the chains as well as the serpentine belt replaced. It was a precautionary measure. The head gasket was leaking a bit according to a pressure test, so it was replaced. While the water pump, radiator and hoses were removed from the vehicle, why not change these parts while the motor's disassembled? Although not necessary, this extended the life of my 4Runner, I'm convinced. Motor is practically new in my book. The rest of the LFPP's (little F***ing plastic parts) have done what they all do with age. They fly off or break due to age. BUT: This is a Toyota 4Runner, and not some bullsh**t Chrysler product. Still running strong, Still got it.

By the way, I have a 1978 Toyota truck with a 20R motor that has Eight Hundred Eighty Seven Thousand miles on it. Driven from LA, CA to Atlanta, GA in 41 hours when I moved here in 92. No factory air. The radio quit 25 years ago. It's still on its original timing chain, brake rotors, and exhaust. I'll never sell it. Ever. Don't even ask.

Those dual row timing chains with steel guides made the 20R engines bulletproof
