The coating is actually high temp paint. One of buddy's that has served 3 tours in Iraq actually coated it for me, and said that this is how they would coat their weapons as an added layer of protection. The coating is in pretty good condition, and looks pretty sick up close. Usually anyone who sees this AR realizes right away that I am very proficient with it. As my buddy would say, if an AR looks like it's been used, don't mess with this individual, but if it is spotless, then the person most likely doesn't really know how to use it, as for it's intended purpose.
