Up for sale is a nice 1909 dated Springfield, with a 1942 SA barrel and a desirable Type C stock. Also affixed is a very rare original Air Service extended magazine.
A brief history: The Air Service Springfield magazine was a 25 round magazine designed for pilot use during the First World War, as a survival weapon for flyboys who couldn't carry ammo bandoliers with them. Approximately 2200 of these magazines were made in 1918, and about 900 were fitted to cut down 1903s and sent to Europe for field testing. The project was scrapped with the end of the war, and about 10 of the original guns and a hundred or so of the magazines surviving. The magazines have recently been bringing about 900 to 1000 at auction, when they appear. This one is by all accounts original, with authentic army ordnance eagle proofs on both sides.
I will split the rifle from the magazine and sell each separately!
