Mine shows it was made in 1977 something I’m missing?

From the looks of your pick it does not. All pg’s, fg’s and ss’s from 72-74 have this feature on the original stock. Allegedly making it easier to draw from a scabbard and moving your thumb closer to the hammer for faster cocking. You have a 77 pg there that if I’m not mistaken they only made for a short time also. Then marlin reintroduced in 1984 or 85

From what I have read the Model 1894 in 44Mag/44Spl was manufactured from 1969 to 1984 and the 1894S in 44Mag/44Spl (S for crossbolt safety) was manufactured from 1984 on with the model name changed back to 1894 from 1984S in 2001. In 1973 a Model 1894 Sporter was manufactured from one year only with a six shot half mag. There are other models as well such as the 1894S Carbine Limited in 44Mag manufactured in 1996 only, the 1894 PG (pistol grip stock) in 44Mag manufactured in 2003/2004 and the 1894 SBL manufactured in 2011.
There are Marlin enthusiasts on ODT that have much greater knowledge than I and I would welcome any corrections if what I have written is not correct.

I believe what your saying is correct. I ran into a old man at a gun show out side of ft Bragg I had it with me. He looked it over we started talking lever guns. Turns out he worked for marlin at the factory and retired. He asked me to come around his table and he pulls out a book and showed me the variants. If I’m wrong then I’ll accept that as well. And welcome any future knowledge. End of the day two very nice rifles

By no means am I saying you’re wrong I’m just curious myself still learning about these Marlins I’ll take as much info as I can get
