The stock on 788s changed in 1980. The comb was fluted in 1980 and later. The stock on the one pictured has a fluted comb. The serial number will let you know the year of production.
Nice rifle and an absolute tack driver! Appears to be the carbine model. Really nice and getting harder to find every day! GLWS

It’s may be made post 70’s . I e never looked up the age . Just and educated guess . Definitely an accurate rifle that hasn’t been fired very much

I have one that I bought in 1976 and have hunted with ever since. Never let me down and I have hunted in every kind of weather Georgia has to offer. Still hunt with it today! Killed a lot of deer with it. Great rifles and super accurate. GLWS
