Item Relisted! FS Manton Double Barrel Black Powder - Clone

Another of the various old guns my father had is this "Manton", side by side, double barrel, percussion cap, black powder, 24-gauge, shotgun.

All I knew was it was old, and I don't really have need of it. I happened upon another ODT user that has a passion for these old shotguns, and he provided me with an amazing amount of research, big props to him. BLIP is his handle or find him at OH Brien Refinishing in the business section.

Turns out that this one is not an original Manton, but one of many that were knock-offs of the real thing. Here is some of the information I was provided:

1. There were many Birmingham makers who would mark guns "Manton" or "J. Manton"; not Joseph, John, or Manton & Co., to avoid patent infringement while fooling the unknowing.
2. It carries Birmingham proof marks from 1868-1875.
3. 26 would be a 24 gauge with bore .563"

So, it is really just an interesting kind of collectable, piece of wall art for the most part. Would look amazing hanging over a fireplace at a cabin in the mountains.
