Could someone please tell me the purpose of tracer ammo for a pistol? I can see no valid use for it other than fun at night for those who want to play at the range. Could there possibly be a real military use for it?

Heck yeah you can shoot it. I've had a blast with this stuff at night in Habersham County on camping trips - it's something we have seen on t.v. a million times but seeing it in person really awesome.

It does.
When I had my Cobray, we used a few in it and it worked just fine and the kids gotta kick outta seeing it.
We picked some of this same stuff up at a swap meet a few years ago. I've also seen it around every now and then.
