Going through some old stuff I found my last shotgun license from the uk, (1996).

You had to carry this on you when in possession of a shotgun. Note all guns listed by serial number.

The reverse is full of security requirements and to who / how / timescale you had to report any purchase, sale, loss or change of address.

I don't have a copy of the Firearms Certificate from then, but it was much worse !

I forgot to add, to even apply, (and issuing was up to the police), you had to get one of a list of people, (medical doctor, priest, solicitor), to affirm they'd known you for 5 years + and they believed you to be a 'suitable' person to possess a shotgun, and you had to declare your 'reasonable' purpose for possessing.

Then the police would come round to interview you, inspect your security and establish you had a primary place to shoot.

Getting a license to buy blackpowder was nearly as painful.
