Brunswick Commissioner arrested for interference in baby murder case

BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- A Brunswick City Commissioner is behind bars, accused of obstructing law enforcement and influencing a witness in the investigation into the murder of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago.

Commissioner James Henry Brooks, Sr. was arrested Thursday night. Brooks' attorney says he stepped in between officers and the mother of 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins, one of the teens charged with murder in the case.

Attorney Alan David Tucker says police were trying to speak with Karimah Elkins during the teen's first court appearance on Monday when the incident occurred.

According to the Glynn County Jail, Brooks is charged with influencing a witness and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He is in jail under no bond.

Action News met with Commissioner Brooks earlier this week during an interview with family members of De'marquise Elkins. Action News also captured video of Brooks walking with the Elkins family in front of the courthouse on Monday. Brooks told Action News he is related to De'marquise Elkins.

Brooks was also arrested in 2012 on a bribery charge.

So in addition to the mother and the aunt lying to investigators and trying to dispose of the murder weapon, you've got a local elected official tampering with witnesses and interfering with law enforcement. Dafork is going on in B'wick?

Look at that Sheriff in Clayton county. Are there any similarities between the 2? I have not really been following the Brunswick stuff.
