Any CLP or oil seems to evaporate in a safe after a period of time. Is grease a better option? Obviously periodic lubrication would work too, but who has time for that?! I've used wheel bearing grease before. The plus side is for about $5 you have enough grease for 300 lifetimes.

I use regular gun or air oil, sparingly applied. Doesn't "evaporate" or gather much if any dust.
Worst thing for any gun is over or thick lube.

I have a oil soaked soft cloth rag I keep in a zip lock bag in my gun box. I wipe all my guns down every now and then. That give me an excuse to take them out and admire them. I use regular old hopps gun oil. As an extra precaution I keep all my blued steel guns in Bore Store guns socks. They are impregnated with silicone to keep moister out. They are worth the investment as far as keeping then from smacking each other when taking them out and so on. I suppose that's a little obsessive compulsive but I like my guns to stay in pristine condition throughout the guns life.
An excellent example of that is I have a 1981 model Remington 700 BDL that looks like it just came out of the box. That gun has had many dear seasons behind it as well so it can't be labeled a safe queen. I keep my AR's in those gun socks just to keep them from knocking around against each other.
I oil the gun up real good and slide it in one of the gun socks. When I take them back out they look like I just oiled them. Look into the Bore-Stores line of gun socks. They are not real expensive but I feel like my babies are worth the investment. They come in an array of sizes for different rifle platforms and handguns as well. Amazon is the best place to purchase them.
