Knife making question

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I'm gonna try!

I am very new to knife making. Actually, haven't really started yet, getting things together to start. I'm looking to get an anvil. Been pricing them and BOY, they cost! I have seen where some folks have a piece of train track and love them for anvils. I'd like to find one but dont know who or where to ask. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

My dad found his on the side of the tracks in Houston County. They were replacing a good bit of it and it was discarded. I tried to get him to cut a hunk off for me with his "chop saw"....Wasn't happnin.

You can find pieces of track on eBay. I would suggest finding a decent anvil to start with with a nice flat face.

Don’t get caught grabbing it from the side of the tracks, they don’t take lightly too it as the recycle all the track, spikes, brackets, and such. Rail Police are hard core.

Estate sales are a great place to find them at a reasonable price
