I think your requirements kind of eliminated most of the options out there. I don't think they really make a compact, light, versatile, idiot-proof system that sharpens without removing a lot of steel. The Sharpmaker suggested was probably the closest to what you are looking for. Any good system will take a little practice with though.
The tiny pull through sharpeners are cheap and functional, but they sharpen by scraping steel off the edge.

hell.....I just take mine to the "knife sharpener guy"....$1 an inch....worth every penny!!!

for quick and dirty, take a look at a Block sharpener. easy to use, pocket-sized, cheap.

Block is the brand name, not the style or type.

Yes, but they remove more than other methods. It is kind of like using a drawing knife on wood when sandpaper would have given you better results. If you don't mind that they wear the blade faster, and you are happy with the edge they provide, it isn't a problem though.

only choice i have right now. just need a good easy to use sharpener.
i just tossed out that Lansky System with all the stones this morning.
couldnt seem to make it work either lol so to the trash it went.
