I bought a small bandsaw mill a couple of years ago. Have done quite a few projects with it. Last year, one of my neighbors did a house renovation / expansion. A fairly big black walnut tree had to come down to make way for the expanded footprint of his house. He asked if I would cut two fireplace mantles and support beams from that tree, for a double sided/center room fireplace in his new great room. We did it together, and the fireplace came out awesome. As a thank you, he left me the rest of the black walnut.

Finally got around to using it for a project: Shelves in a corner of our basement, with some black pipe supports. I left a live edge on the boards, ran them through the planer, down to 1" (ugh...heavy!). The wife sanded and stained them. Now just need to add books.

As with all things sawmill, it's a lot of fun to turn a tree into useful stuff.
