Started life in 1944 - built by Birmingham Small Arms (Shirley) (BSA-Shirley). The "M/47C" stamped on the collar is the "war code" for BSA Shirley, then of course the date code and serial number.
The stamp on the receiver is No4MKIIFAFTR - so basically "No. 4" "MkII" FA = Fazakarly, and FTR=Factory Thorough Refnish - so FTR'd by the Fazakerly plant in 1948. Basically they went through the rifle and changed out any worn parts, and converted some items, the main of which being the trigger being mounted to the receiver. The Fazarkerly FTR'd rifles were marked with electro-pencils and tend not to be as deep as a real "stamp". To see the "II" is common, as well as "2".
