I have an opportunity to buy a new Legacy Sports Intl/Howa M1500 Ranchland Compact 223 bolt action 5+1 for a reasonable price. I know nothing about this rifle or mfgr. Thoughts? Any help appreciated. Far cry from what I really want (Ruger Mini-14), but those are priced out of reason and largely unavailable.

If the price is right i would buy it. Howas are great shooters. Howa makes the barrel and action for Weatherby Vanguards. Be aware that the twist rate for their .223 is 1:12, so you will likely want to stay with 55 gm or lower for best accuracy. If you decide not to buy pm me the details and I may buy it! Gook luck.

I had a 243 ranchland compact that was a great shooter. Very smooth action and fairly good trigger. Love the hogue stocks. He's right about the 1:12 twist - varmint rifle.

Triggers are total crap but there is a nice upgrade from Timney that made my 308 Howa a tack driver. I can consistantly stack bullets at 100yds. I would get that rifle. As someone else said the Hogue stocks are nice. The secret of the twist is bullet length I have seen some of the 1:12's sling 62 gr bullets pretty good others not so much I have seen some that wouldn't group anything other than 40gr's. Just stay away from the long HPBT's Those might give you a problem.
