Lever Gun Porn

7pt62Thor, you should see some of the stuff I buggered up over the years thinking I had the skills to do the job. And yes, I learned that there are jobs I just cannot do.

I'm looking to buy a Marlin 336XLR. If not XLR maybe SS. Prefer JM stamp but not a deal breaker.

Finding a XLR with the JM stamp, will most likely be rather expensive, but there are quite a few XLRs available without the JM stamp. GunBroker always has quite a few of the newer XLRs for sale on their auction site. Bud's has some XLRs available, so I believe you should be able to find a new one rather easily. Good luck finding what you want.

I've spoken with a local gun shop but they said their distributors are out of stock so may take a couple weeks. Price isn't an issue. As long as it's reasonable. But I've looked online and found a few even a couple JM stamped but I've never done the whole online shipping thing and kinda nervous about it. Anyone here had experience with it. What happens if the person doesn't ship the rifle. Or the rifle is misrepresented. Like say it says JM on the ad but it gets here and it doesn't have it. Or the rifle looks good in the pictures but there are no close ups and it gets here and it has a lot of scratches or wood is all dinged up and scratched. I know some ads say no inspection period. What can you do if this happens? Or do you just have to shrug it off and just take the hit?

I can only give my opinion on online buying based on my experience. If you are buying form a place like Bud's, you should not have any problems, other than it takes a while to receive the item. Buying online from an auction site like GunBroker, can be an issue unless you deal with a seller who has a long reputation of being honest and fair. I had, and still have, some concerns sending my money to buy something I cannot see and hoping that the seller is truthful in the description of the firearm and will in fact not just keep my money and disappear. In that regard, I would stay far away from Armslist. Too many scams, crooks, and dishonest sellers on that site. Unless they are from your area and you can actually view the gun before buying, stay away from Armslist. I have purchased several guns online, and my experience has been good. Most of the guns I received were actually better than described. But, you have to realize, you are taking a chance anytime you cannot view the gun before purchasing it. If you have an aversion to buying online, don't do it. Go back to your local gun shop, order one and wait the couple of weeks to get one. It will be one of the newer Marlins, but if that is not an issue, that is what I would do. Or, place a WANT TO BUY ad here on ODT and hope someone has one you can purchase. Given that JM stamped XLRs can be difficult to find, your options are somewhat limited. You will most likely have to buy from someone who has one and they most likely will not be in your area. Buying online or not buying online is a decision you have to make. Do your research before sending any money to anyone. As I stated, if you don't mind having one of the newer XLRs, go through your LGS and just wait it out.
Good luck in making your decision.
