As a former SRO here and in Florida, I like the idea of having gun safes, containing long guns, in the schools, strategically placed. Also, there MUST be an armed presence at ALL times. Way too often SROs are taken out of the schools for mandatory training, court cases, etc, and many schools, especially elementary schools don’t have SROs AT ALL. This is completely insane to me. I would much rather have a trained armed veteran on site, than a trained teacher. Not that I’m against training teachers to carry, but being able to defend against someone wanting to take away your firearm isn’t easy without supplemental weapons, such as a Taser or an ASP baton. Bad guys coming into the school aren’t the only possible threats.

On a side note I noticed you posted a pic of an actual newspaper. I assume it was delivered to your home. I briefly considered getting the 3 day weekend edition of the Macon Telegraph ...

No, I buy a real newspaper in-person when the mood strikes me or when I see something on the front page that looks particularly interesting.

I'll buy it at the same convenience store where I get gas and coffee.

I also read the newspaper's website, although most articles only give you a short blurb and then you hit a paywall.

I hate to say it but we need Combat Vets in each school, sad to say, to handle an active shooter..Ones that have the balls not to hesitate until Mommy say's it ok to do something...,I am past fed up with the lack of handling a situation with kit gloves..I'll leave it at that.......

130k schools in the USA...50k/yr for 2 combat vets for each school...$13billion a year. How much $$$ have we sent to Ukraine this year alone?

I totally agree. this is cheap, we employ vets and we protect the kids. oh, and that 13billion gets spent here.

I'd say that while giving cops access to a gun safe where they can find a loaded AR-15 waiting for them IS A GOOD IDEA,

....what would be more practical is changing their duty handgun to something with a longer barrel and a small optical sight on it so that they could take head shots or pelvic region shots on an armored bad guy from 50+ yards.

That way, they'll always have a gun capable of taking down a mass shooter with them --not on the other side of a locked safe door, in some other room, maybe even on some other part of the campus.

I'm down with the VETS doing this, I know plenty of them would jump on this. Hell Florida is letting them be Teachers...... just arm them. also it is way to easy to get on school campus, lock down schools and put guards at the gates.
