Long term affects of shooting.223 in a 5.56?

My DDM4A1 is chambered for the 5.56 and of course I know I can shoot the .223. Is there any long term affects for shooting a 223 in the 5.56?

Also, I went shopping yesterday for some 5.56 and it seems like there's more .223 to choose from. Is there a reason for that? High demand for 5.56?

No, however depending on the quality of the rifle, 5.56 out of a 223 can be detrimental.

From what I've heard, its just difference in case thickness. Negligible differences, at best.

The long term effect is long term enjoyment of shooting your AR. No detrimental effect on your rifle in the slightest.

5.56 is like .223+P. A little more chamber pressure and a little more velocity.

The brass from most manufacturers is identical except the headstamp.

American Eagle is as good as any. I personally shoot a whole lot of Wolf Gold .223 through all seven of my 5.56/.223 ARa. If you reload, the crimps have to be removed from their primer pockets.

Ive wondered that myself but I also don't plan on shooting 50k rounds out of the same rifle....
