Is this automatically a bad thing? Will it be rusted up underneath? Should I just fuggitaboudit before I even drive to look at it?

um yea... Where in NY..? They have tried to swap to more sand vs salt in the winter.. but if its lived there its whole life it's seen salt...
Salt will have ruined a number things underneath. Trust me on this. Everything, everything costs more to repair on a car that lived any time as a "Yankee", trust me.

That is one thing I appreciate down in Melbourne Florida..The car washes on the coast have sprayers on the floor to clean the undercarriage. I always go through one when leaving a friends house.
