And I don't know squat about them. I have a new garden i need to defend ;) And I'm looking for something that is better than a gamo etc... Not sure of a budget. Maybe $600 for a really nice one? I think i would like a scope and laser pointer for darkness.

Anyone have any suggestions for me? I honestly have NO idea where to start. Thank you!

I don't know about high end air guns but I literally JUST ordered this a few minutes ago. Time for some backyard ops. :lol:

Crosman M4-177 BB/pellet air rifle (You could get 10 of them on your air rifle budget :lol: )

Air rifles can be very frustrating.

With the shock many deliver they are their own worst enemy. I have a few friends and co-workers that fool with them and have heard many creative expletives concerning their ability to maintain zero.

Spring air guns are cheaper but typically are harder to shoot accurately. There are some expensive exceptions. The spring is well known to trash expensive scopes not prepared for the forward recoil of the heavy spring. An air gun specific scope is required for these guns. These are a bit of a challenge to precision shoot unless you spend big money on a European model designed for target shooting. Your Walmart spring-air gun will get you minute of squirrel within its range.

For the money, compressed air/nitrogen/CO2 guns don't recoil, easy on optics, require no follow through (as spring air does) and generally cost less for precision accuracy.

You don't have to spend $600 for an excellent pest control air rifle. I have a pretty decent collection of air rifles and can attest to the downside of the aforementioned springer style. The Benjamin 392 is a very accurate, hard hitting air rifle if you don't mind pumping it up with 8 strokes of the forearm. It has a rifled solid brass barrel (not sleeved) and a hardwood stock. It's one of the most accurate in my collection and has enough power to dispatch unwanted garden visitors with ease.
Of course if you want to spend your budget you could look at the Benjamin Marauder which is a pre charged pneumatic (PCP) air rifle.
Here's a list of decent PCPs from airgun depot http://www.airgundepot.com/pre-charged-pneumatic-air-rifles.html
Here's a refurbished .22 cal thats a heck of a deal and should be more than enough gun. I'm liking the rotory mag that keeps you from having to select a pellet every time and load it into the breech by hand. http://www.airgundepot.com/refurbished-benjamin-marauder-pcp-air-rifle-22.html
Good luck

Here's a video on PCPs I found that highlights some of the advantages

Here's a great place to start; it may get overwhelming at first;

My favorite is the RWS 52 in 22cal. 4 one shot kills this weekend from 15-45 yards. I've been airgunning for decades and it's a great way to keep in tune when you can't shoot your "powder burners".

Hey, what can I say? When friends come over, there's plenty of toys to play with.
