I've been reading up on a way to send simple encrypted SMS without a mobile phone data plan. I don't know how well it can work over long distances, but it seems to act like a network of repeaters. Anybody using this system? I'd like to find out more. I have family in Vidalia, Portland Or. and NSW Australia. Not sure if it can be used for such long distances. But it really only depends on the development of the "mesh" network, it seems. No Ham radio license needed. And the only equipment may be just a simple $30 radio signal emitter.

I was thinking of setting up one in the NG MTNS to see what we could get in non-cell areas. 900mhz would probably be best. Solar powered repeaters might be cool.
Sure would like to know how far your signal gets. Also, pretty sure the US frequencies for LoRa are 902.3 MHz with increment every 200 kHz up to 914.9 MHz. You dont want to fall afoul of the FCC.
