If I found a firearm in a WMA, I think I would take custody of it and then report it to the Sheriffs department for the county in which that WMA is located.
I may also call the state department of natural resources (DNR) and talk to the game warden for that area, let him know.

Ya know, I have seen a lot of memes about loosing guns in the boating accident, but this......I think it goes too far.
Seriously though, good luck. If you have the serial, I think you can report it to the local sheriff and have it listed on NCIC as lost. Last I checked a firearm is the only lost item that can be listed, but you have to have the serial.
