I have both and it depends. It depends upon what you wish to do with it. I like a scope for hunting , deer , Coyotes etc.

I like iron sights otherwise, purist I guess.

Bassett makes a resoenably priced QD scope mount its worth a try to see whether or not you like a scope.

I may have one I would sell rather inexpensively I think that it was cleaned in a sonic bath and the finish is worn.

This was my best scope set up to keep the optic low and have flip up 45 degree iron sights

Dude I love that!! I want an M1A now. There was a guy at a PRS match with the side mount and it kept coming loose. The guy was so upset since the rifle was accurate. Thought an M1A at a PRS match was a unique choice.

With the right Sadlak mount and a detachable Fulton Armory cheek rest I can use my irons quite well with the scope still mounted. There's a gap right down the middle of the rail just for that.
