Sorry, I just don't get the appeal of this. Magnet isn't going to find gold or silver, but steel or iron, which will be rusted junk if in the water for very long. Think there is more money in aluminum cans along the highway. Sorry, maybe I'm to old to "get it".

Even though you will not get gold or silver, there are many other metallic things that are of value. Of course it is fun regardless of how valuable the items are...however I live really close to some old confederate fort sites on the river, as well as ponds and lakes that have been around for 100 + years. These locations could very well have some vintage/antique guns, ammo, pots and pans, and old house items from the old days. In places like Germany/France, you see people getting WW2 era stuff all the time
