Marine Corps

They will give him a bus ticket to the airport where he will need to be picked up by his recruiter. The recruiter should know this. He took a step that a lot of people are scared to take.

Get the retest first thing!! The test kits they use are a joke. They tell my g/f every year that she has TB, but never actually has it when they do the full test.

Being exposed to something isn't the same as having it. A single positive TB skin test in a contraindication for ever taking it again, because once you get a positive one, you will always show positive. Unfortunately, she'll be getting chest xrays every year.

I thought Hep B was a common childhood vaccine...is it not? I'm an army brat, so I'm really not sure how they do that on the civilian side. I'd swear my own kids got it, but I may have requested it, don't remember.

Anyway, yeah, I am sorry to hear about that. The important thing is that he tried and gave it everything he could. I have respect for anyone that signs their name and gets on that bus, regardless of how it turns out. It's not the end of the world. And if he attacks each new challenge like he did this one, he should do well in life.

Oh, and they'll get him back to you one way or the other, don't worry.

Thank you everyone! Gotta tell you....when that phone call came through I cried for the first time in years.....I knoiw how much this meant to him......Thankyou everyone for your kind words...I does mean a lot to me.

I don't know much about Hep B and how one gets clear of it IF the pos turns out accurate but . . . he's so young, he may not have to give up on the mil thing. From the experience of a few folks I know, the USMC is tough to get back into once you leave. The Army however does recruit prior service. Recently for example they had one primary priority for prior service enlistments - 18X which is the enlistment path into a "tryout" for Special Forces. Now right off the bat, one has to be 21 to get this enlistment option. So no rush. There may be other options over time. The other Services may have a variety of options. I hope that with the sequester cut pressure off DoD they can have a little more flexibility than they've shown lately.

Youngsters running into walls in the way of their dreams breaks my heart. His story too. But never never quit. Audie Murphy got rejected by the USMC first also before he landed in the Army. Bless him.

Two things:

1. He stood on those yellow foot prints and no one can ever take that away from him.

2. This isn't over. Get him retested, cleared, and back in the fight.

As a father of a military Veteran myself I know how proud you are for him signing up and going for it, that alone shows his strength and conviction. He'll bounce back from this and if he is retested for the hep B and it comes back negative maybe he can go for it again, I don't know how that works. Please tell your son for us here at the trader we are proud of him too. I also know as a dad this probably hurt you as much as it did him. As others have said though, when one door closes another one will open. Y'all have a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.
