A perennial question on the interwebs is "is it legal for a minor to have a handgun in an automobile in Georgia" where no weapons license is required for an adult to do so.

The answers will be all over the spectrum, many incorrect, including some from LEO. Real world experience shows that not all LEO are trained about this point.

If the minor is the driver, the short answer is "Yes", if the minor is otherwise lawfully entitled to possess a handgun, which in GA. means he is 18 years of age or older, and has none of the other disabilities to owning a gun. Note that if the minor is a passenger, different rules apply.

Here is a newstory which gives a remarkably clear account of how this can work out.

didn't see any minors mentions, sis I over look that part?

The attempted robbery victim, 19-year-old Tyrese Pemberton, told police he was pumping gas when he was approached by the suspect.

Pemberton told police he took cover and pulled out his own gun for protection.
