Hire a pro. Mold is dangerous. Hydrogen peroxide will kill it but also releases spores in the air. Pros will put up plastic and direct the air out of your house so there is no spores in the air. Mold can make you sick or kill you.

It was only a small area and hadn't really started rotting the wood yet.

The spores are the main concern. Bleach releases them into the air. Did you wear a respirator, close off the area from the rest of the house? Open a window? Do you have small children or animals?

Used to do mold remediation you wanna use Microban in a pump sprayer on the area and allow it to dry well. Floor fans pointed towards the area. When dry paint the area with 6100 the fungicide white pigmented shellac.
