This morning the moms started attacking with more lies.

Tell @GovernorDeal: Don't give felons a license to kill. Speak out w/ @DemandAction: http://act.demandaction.org/letter/Moms-Tell-Governor-Deal?akid=.1491052.neqX19&taf=1 …

Then Galloway got involved: http://politics.blog.ajc.com/2014/0...ld-let-felons-claim-stand-your-ground-status/

Updated: Just got back from the House clerk’s office. HB 60, with the language of HB 875 attached, does in fact include the above language, which would appear to allow convicted felons to avoid prosecution for the use of deadly force by invoking Georgia’s self-defense statutes.

But they are still not allowed to vote.

This week’s folly from the Moms comes in the form of a Tweet in which they claim HB875/HB60 would give “felons a license to kill.” As unexpected as it sounds, the Moms have been watching too many Bond films.
The errors in the Moms’ Tweet are numerous. First, they apparently don’t realize that convicted felons, like all people in the state, can make use of the self-defense laws in this state. Yes, Moms, much as you hate the idea of a person defending himself against a violent attack, even felons can do so, and even while they still are in prison. And, if the circumstances fit, they can even claim (GASP!) that they had no duty to retreat.

Click for more I especially like the dig at the end at Galloway!

So 16-3-21, 16-3-23, 16-3-23.1 and 16-3-24 all pertain to lawful self-defense, with a weapon?

The strike out (or 3) this allows a felon to lawful defend himself and not be prosecuted?

So, if a felon, disbarred from possession of a firearm, uses one in lawful self-defense, then he is immune from criminal prosecution, right?

The howls are amazingly loud here with Jim Galloway's AJC piece: http://politics.blog.ajc.com/2014/03/17/on-whether-gun-bill-would-let-felons-claim-stand-your-ground-status/

Yep,

But with STG and castle doctrine a person in some instances can't be prosecuted if lawfully defending himself-immune. Does that apply in Georgia and if so if a felon lawfully defended himself with a firearm would he be subject to prosecution? I think it's a valid question and have seen it pop up where a citizen was illegally armed (Chicago/New York/D.C.) but because he was defending his life castle doctrine prohibited prosecuting. All they could do was confiscate the persons "illegal" firearm but could not charge him.

Seems like they could get them for possession of a firearm, maybe probation violation, but they would be free from criminal charges relating to the self defense act that (may or may not) have resulted in a fatality? Kinda gray area there

New day old lies:

2nd to the last day of the legislative session! If you are not down at the Capitol with us lobbying, its TIME TO CALL AND FAX YOUR STATE SENATOR! There are 3 extreme gun bills in the Senate now, HB 60, HB 875 and HB 826. All three are trying to arm teachers or school staff, among other things. CALL TODAY!

Find your state Senators on www.votesmart.org

Suggested message: I oppose HB 875 because I believe that teachers should teach and not be expected to perform the function of a police officer or SWAT team. This bill arms teachers and school employees with a minimum amount of training – this is a recipe for more homicides and accidents. It will also promote a culture of fear in our schools that is not conducive to learning. Please vote no on any bills that include this provision, including HB826, HB875 and HB60.

GCO responds:

Moms Demand Ignorance of Current Law
From today’s mailbag, Moms Demand Action are decrying HB 60 as an “extreme” measure that would “arms teachers and school employees with a minimum amount of training.” Politifact already determined the “extreme” epithet is “mostly false,” but that does not seem to deter the Moms from continuing to spread “mostly false” information.
What the Moms fail to understand, however, is that current law already allows school officials to let anyone carry a firearm at school with no training at all. HB 60 would create a new path for arming teachers who volunteer to do so. The armed teachers would be required to undergo training on “judgment pistol shooting, safe handling and storage of weapons, marksmanship, and a review of current laws relating to the use of force for the defense of self and others.” Hey, Moms, what do you think Georgia’s law enforcement personnel are trained in? That’s right, the exact same things.

The mind set of these morons is overwhelming. MDA replies to a FB poster about "smart guns" and demanding it before the military and police utilize the technology.

The vacuum increases PSI.....
