What??? No Cherry Bombs?

LOL.

Today, a lot of V8's sound perfect with a simple muffler delete. Leave the CATs intact for emissions, but the CATs also help muffle the sound a bit so it's not too raspy...

I took a sawzall and removed my muffler and flapper valve on my new Trail Boss the day I brought it home. Took it to the local muffler shop and paid them $100 to bend and weld in a 3" section of stainless pipe, done. Sounds awesome, better than most catback systems I have listened to that tend to cost a grand or so...

Put some Flow 40's on my 96 suburban, got half way home, turned around and paid the man to take them off. Resonance in the cabin made my teeth buzz between 45-75.

I voted for Flowmasters but if you don’t like drone, go with the Magnaflow. I’d also consider glasspacks, they’re cheaper than both and have that old school sound and surprisingly low drone.

My Trail Boss has some weird panels, like fine mesh screen rectangles on the pipes near the outlets... 3 on each pipe(dual outlets)... The do something with harmonics, because the exhaust is loud when you stomp on it, but almost OEM quiet when cruising down the road...

2 stage flows for smallblock, single stage for big blocks.
Flowmaster lost thier patent years ago so you can get the same sound for half the price

Does it have 24” wheels or bigger?
Before changing wheels might investigate their country of origin.
Like everything else a lot of them are now made in China. Even
'American Racing' wheels are made in China. Ought to be forced
to change their name (jmho). Not a matter of patriotism, more
importance is build quality. Many Chiners are simply gravity cast.
Better ones are low pressure cast which means air pressure applied
to liquid while it solidifies in the mold. Forces out air creating a more
dense and stronger wheel. High pressure cast usually only for true
racing wheels. Fortunately Tirerack.com has this information under
each wheel's details or specs when opened all the way. Few brands
made in Europe are Anzio and Rial. Those have 2 yr warranty while
China made specify 1 year.
May not matter, for all I (don't) know manufacturers may get their
OEM wheels from sources in China. Safe bet they ain't from D'troit.

As for exhaust mods....guess I'm getting old. Now days doesn't
sound cool, just sounds noisier. Since about 90% of the trucks,
pony cars, and rice rockets have deleted mufflers life is a LOT
noisier. Must be why they have to have the mega-watts sound
systems to hear over the exhaust.
Didn't hear anyone mention Thrush mufflers, guess those are
long gone. Back in the olden days one trick was to use turbo
Corvair mufflers instead of aftermarket brands. Better quality
decent price from NAPA. Fairly small and low back pressure
with mellow sound but quiet enough for trips. Had those on a
1967 289 Mustang with 2.5" pipes exiting on sides in front of
rear wheels. Wish had that one back more than once.
