Growing on forest floor not wood. Gold color.

Or this that looks similar but grows in a cluster and smells like earth....

I always compared it to apricot but could see cantaloupe. Those are golden chanterelles. Delicious sautéed in a tablespoon of olive oil with a butter pat and salt, pepper.

COW grows on oak stumps. Those are chanterelles. They grow only out of the ground.

I'm wanting to learn more about them. I cooked some golden chanterelles Saturday. Also found this reishi in the backyard.

I'd love to know about the local ones as well, just because. I did notice recently that you can order spores from eBay for edible mushrooms that are specific to wood types. You can order those that grow on downed pine trees, or oak trees for example.
