Glad you're gonna be semi-okay after all this. And keeping a self-effacing sense of humor helps. I know. I had an AD a little over a year ago. -------- Had a .22 mag derringer on my pocket, hammer down. I was laying back in my recliner, then got up to answer the phone. I hadn't realized the derringer had ridden up in my pocket. When I stood, the gun fell out and landed hammer first on the floor. The shot went up through two toes on my right foot, then continued on between the bones in my lower left leg, severing muscles and nerves. --------- At least I was lucky that it wasn't pointing at my head! --------- 15 months later, I still don't have feeling in my left foot. I have broken a couple toes walking around the house and banging into stuff, but it doesn't hurt! And I walk like I'm drunk all the time. There's no pain now, but no balance either. --------- This thread is very eye opening, and the fact that you started it encouraged me to 'come clean'! I am a moderator on a decent sized gun forum, and was reluctant to tell everyone what an idiot I was! --------- Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one! Haha!

Well I figured I would post an update.
You can't imagine how much you use your off hand until you can't use it. I can do most basic things. But I can't open bottles. Can't stir my damn tea or yogurt. There are things I can't do that we won't discuss here but use your imagination. I can't drive cause I'll get a dui from all the pain medication. I wake up every two hours to piss. And my hand has to stay above the heart. I thought that was a suggestion but if it's dropped below thar level the throbbin pain will make you put it up. I usually cook as the wife is book smart not home smart. Thanks to my grandmother who is staying with us for the week. She has helped take care of me and the boy. The part that about puts me in tears every time is i can't pick up and hold my son. That hurts more than the hand

All of us are joking a bit, as is to be expected, but if you are reading this thread and thinking to yourself "what a dumbass, I would never do anything like that" you need to take a second and realize that if you have not had an "oh crap" moment yet, you will. Period. Stay safe.
