Mystery Sound in the Woods

Somewhere near the top of an old growth poplar tree about 70 feet high, presumably a bird of some sort, but sounded exactly like an elk call, and almost as loud. I have already googled, it was not a loon. What bird (presumably) would make this sound? I have spent plenty of time outdoors in GA and never heard this sound before except for episodes of Meat Eater where they call elk. An elk call is the closest thing I can compare it to.

Any ideas?

Bird sounds like a cow elk probably a flicker (type of woodpecker) though Canada jays can also mimic cow elk calls perfectly if they're in the mood for a little fun

Definitely a milormore bird.

I listened to youtube sounds of both of those woodpeckers, not even close. But there is a woodpecker in that same area because I have heard it pecking.

LOL its an old joke, Something to the effect they would make a loud squawk and shoot straight up a mile or more
