Wow, talking about hoarding and abuse of power, I assume many of these guns were used legally but never returned to their owners.

"CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has thousands of confiscated firearms stored in their facilities, according to Chief Kerr Putney.

In an interview with WBTV anchor Molly Grantham, Putney explained why the department is keeping the confiscated guns locked behind closed doors when some of the firearms could be sold to vendors."

I wonder how many are stolen guns that could be returned to their rightful owner.

I knew a guy that was pulling a .270 out of the backseat of his truck on a hunting trip (muzzle end first like a jackass) the gun went of shooting him in the stomach point blank. He survived and recovered a lot better than you'd think but the police tried to keep his rifle. I'm not sure if he ever got it back, they were demanding his original receipt on an old ass 270.
