Need 2 or 4 Punches Made on Metal Lathe

Are you wanting a set of hardened steel punches or just mild steel to do some simple work ?

When I contacted a machinist last year he said mild steel would probably be fine. He lived kind of far away and the scheduling didn't work.
Maybe hardened steel would be better in the long run. I don't know how much more difficult that would be to work with.

Yes in the long run they will hold up and allow you to do more than brass or copper.
