As far as the head gasket goes, I remember there was a tab that pertruded out from the head after it was installed. Not sure if yours has the tabs sticking out but that can help you figure out if theyre on correctly.

Has this been converted to fuel injection or is it still carburetted?

If the intake was painted Ford blue or other color, see if any of the runners on top are discolored due to heat. This may lead to a gasket not having the "circle shaped" material moved prior to install.

Ok took a look at mine. Both sides have the tab from the head gasket on the lower front corner of both heads. First pic is drivers side and second is passenger side just behind alternator. What does yours look like Op?
