I could convert my dad's 700 BDL and use that action. But I'm hesitant to do that to my father's gun that he left me.

Don't do that. Trust me on that one. Leave "Dad's" gun as is.

You could look at companies that make pre-fit barrels, see what actions they work with, and narrow down your options from there.

Naw! This one will be a little above the Taurus job which turned out really well. I put all in Wilson Combat Springs in and did a Hammer and Sear job on it. Got the pull weight down to about four and a half pounds. It has no travel, no creep and a very short reset. It's like just a wall and then a crisp brake just over 4 pounds.
Most of the wear on the slide rails is at the rear 3/4 portion so I'm going to peen the front 1/4 as soon as I get my gauge bar from Pacific tool and gauge. That will make the fit nice and tight.
I don't understand how you guys just don't get taking a gun with a forged frame, slide and hammer forged barrel and turning into something worth owning. If you know you know. If you don't you just can't fathom the concept. Not trying to be an A hole, I'm just saying!

You don't have to true most custom actions these days and for many, you can buy pre-fit barrels that are top notch quality. Take a higher end action, a high end pre-fit and you walk away for less money than buying an action, getting it trued, and then spinning up a barrel to fit.

Thats not the point I was trying to joke about.. I **** with every gun I own regardless of price... I was talking about the cheap turning into double the price once you **** with it... lol
